AI Models
Choose the right model for a research session.
Model Selection
Model choice affects research depth, speed, cost, and reasoning quality. Pick the model before generating or running a plan when you know the task needs a specific balance.
Available Models
Deep Notebook supports models from multiple providers. The exact list can change as providers release new models, but the product is designed to let you choose between faster models and stronger reasoning models.
Use a Faster Model When
- •You are drafting an initial plan
- •The brief is narrow and source material is simple
- •You are testing prompts or comparing instructions
- •You need a quick pass before committing to a deeper run
Use a More Capable Model When
- •The research spans many sources or tools
- •The topic requires judgment, comparison, or uncertainty handling
- •The output will be shared with a client, investor, executive, or team
- •The report needs careful synthesis, citations, and caveats
Practical Guidance
For high-value research, start with the model you would trust to write the final memo. For exploratory work, use a faster model to shape the brief and plan, then switch to a stronger model for the run.
If a result feels shallow, improve the brief and plan before changing models. Clear source constraints, explicit deliverables, and reviewable steps usually improve output more than model choice alone.
